Town/Village/Area: Perce
Primary Family Names: Martin, Ferlat, Frellick,Duguay, Hayes, Donahue,
Secondary Family Names:
Time Period: before 1870
Particulars: Please all you lovely Canadians! Can you help me find my great-great-great grandfather, Thomas William Martin?? The info. I have is that he was born in Canada in 1847 and was a fisherman. Supposedly he married an Elizabeth Jane Frellick or Ferlat and had two children, Elizabeth and Joseph. This family moved to Maine, USA about 1869. Thomas was lost at sea from Peaks Island, Maine in 1875. I can find him only in two city directories in Maine and in his son's marriage record. I can find NO reference to his birth, marriage or death anywhere. I am beginning to wonder if he was who I have always believed him to be! Was he from Perce,Gaspe, Quebec, or was he a transient fisherman who "hooked up" with Elizabeth there? Was he perhaps a Grosse Isle survivor born in 1847? His son, Joseph, supposedly was lost on a tug out of Halifax, NS about 1917; does that suggest these Martins originated there? My dad and brother share the name Thomas William Martin and as my dad is approaching 80 years of age, I would love to tell him of the man he was named after. I don't even know if these Martins were French or Irish! Any leads or help greatly appreciated! thank-you! jeanne@maineancestry.com
