Gaspe Connection: KRRNY Loyalist
Town/Village/Area: New Carlisle
Primary Family Names: Larock/Laroque/Larocque
Secondary Family Names:
Time Period: 1780-1826
Particulars: Searching for "Mary La Rock" ancestor who was born around 1811 in "Quebec", married in 1826 in Richmond/Carleton Ontario to 37th Regiment discharged soldier (took land grant became settler 1818) Ezekiel James COLE. Possible lead is Francis Sr and Jr and Peter Lerrock/Larock/Larocque who served in KRRNY and settled in Ernestown Ontario post war. Did one of them or children move to New Carlisle or Gaspe before 1811? Are ALL those Larocques in the Gaspe from the Caplan/Larocque branch or could these ex KRRNY Loyalist Larocks be related to my Mary as i see some spatterings of KRRNY soldiers there? Francis and sons Loyalist would be perfect fit EXCEPT for the always (3 x)cited birth place of Mary as QUEBEC. Tying KRRNY Larock to Gaspe (although not Quebec City) as Quebec seems to indicate, would be very strong evidence in tying Mary to Francis et al. Gaspe was a long way from Richmond Carleotn and could be mistaken by Mary or identified as Quebec at this time-- Montreal, Oka Rigaud where almost all Larocques were from were very close to Richmond Carleton and would not be constantly listed as "Quebec" which was specifically Quebec City at this time and are almost always "Lower/bas Canada" or place names pre 1861 in that area by Les Anglais. Thank you David Laing
