Gaspe Connection: Parents and grand parents
Town/Village/Area: Perce
Primary Family Names: Girard Syvret
Secondary Family Names: plourd lepage
Time Period: 18 ?? to 1921
| Particulars: My mother is Bernice Hazel Girard born in early 19210s in Perce.
Her father was Frederick Phllip Girard or Phllip Alfred Girard depending on the census. I shall refer to him here as Frederick.
His mother was Mary Plourd and his father was Thomas Girard or Gerard depending on the census.
Her mother and his wife was Clara Emily Girard. Her Father was William Syvret and her mother was Mary Le Page.
Frederick was born May 29 1873 or 74. He died in Buffalo New York In 1965. Clara was born March 12 1874. She died in Buffalo New York In 1949. She had crippling rheumatic fever for much of the last part of her life. He was very healthy. In the 1901 census Mary Girard- Mother -is listed as a widow.
I have not been able to find a record of his father or of her father or mother.
A family album from about 1914 helps a bit. As expected almost no one is identified.
I have been able to figure out that Frederick had at least 2 sisters Nancy and Maggie.
He had at least 2 brothers Ronald Girard and George Girard. Ronald married Susan and they had at least 2 children, Vivien and Rhubart.
Clara had at lest two sisters, Mary and Nancy.
There is also mention of a Jim, an Ira and a Will. There was also a sister Bea. I don't know which family they belong to.
Clara and Frederick had at least 10 children. They were in order, Rita 1898 , Arlington 1900, Sybil 1903, Alma 1904 , Ethel{ (Jo)1906, Muriel (Min) 1909, Bernice (Dollie) 1911, Clement1912, Mabel (Mibs) 19 ?? and Eileen 1918.
Sybil died of appendicitis in 1916 when she was only 13. I don't know if any babies died.
Frederick was a fisherman and appeared to be captain of 2 large vessels. I have a picture of him in front of the two ships talking to a boss (Man in a suit). Unfortunately there is no evidence of the name of either fishing boat. They had a small farm. My mother could see the hole in Perce rock from her bedroom window.
They left Gaspe in 1921 for Niagara Falls. Sorry I haven't figured out how to put in accents.
I have photos of the people mentioned from the album and would be happy to share them.
